The objective of the course of Veterinary Medicine is to train professionals to work in the fields of medicine and surgery of domestic and wild animals. The scope of work of the Veterinary involve the areas of trade and production of animal products, inspection of slaughterhouses and cold, expertise, and health examination of animals enrolled in sports competitions and exhibitions. The sectors in areas related to livestock, preparation and monitoring of feed-related activities are also supported by their academic background.

In practice, the course is taught in the Veterinary Hospital in Two brothers and the field of Advanced Clinic for Cattle in Garanhuns, looking to biotechnology in breeding of animals for the purpose of increased production and improving the quality of herds.

The veterinarian can work in private and public, as autonomous, developing surveillance activities with the objective of preserving animal and public health in Clinical Medicine, Veterinary Surgery and Veterinary hospitals, Zoos and parks, as well as laboratories, pharmaceuticals and vaccines, animal products and cooperative private farms.

Search-and propose better ways of using wild and exotic animals;
Manage-farms, industrial establishments and trade related to production, livestock breeding and technology;
-Evaluate, classify and represent products and animal by-products at all stages of production;
-Run the trial, monitor and advise companies on entry of animals from pedigree records, statements, evidence and functional assessments and animal husbandry;
-Develop research to improve the techniques of farming, transport, handling and slaughter, to animal welfare;
Officer programs to control health, hygiene, prophylaxis and animal traceability, public and private, aimed at food security;
-Develop, administer and coordinate programs, projects and activities in teaching, research and extension, as well as being able to work in scientific fields that allow the formation of academic zootechnics.

The Brazilian agricultural sector is going through profound changes in the quest to modernize, increase productivity and respect for the environment, making companies more competitive in the market. Thus, the preparation, guidance, implementation and management of agricultural projects appropriate for different production systems is a growing field of work in Zootecnia.

Objectives:
Prepare the veterinarian to work in the area of anesthesiology and surgery of small animals offering theoretical and practical foundation that will enable early diagnosis and precise surgical affections that affect dogs and cats as well as the determination of surgical treatment that results in better prognosis for the patient. A critical evaluation and appropriate use of surgical techniques will be addressed through presentations and discussions of clinical cases, and in practical classes students will have the opportunity to train and implement the main techniques discussed in class theoretical. This course is offered in Bagé in Rural Campus, in Alegrete.

Classes are geared to meet the needs of professional training to be supported in the teacher as facilitator and mediator of the teaching-learning process favoring the construction of knowledge. On this principle there was in the structure of the course of Veterinary Medicine University of Castelo Branco the need for deployment of nuclei formed by the faculty to develop with the support of the joint coordination between education research and extension as follows:
Center for Extension: develops along the course and scope of community projects implementing routines of work in strategic areas such as public health / preventive veterinary medicine and animal production technology inspection of animal products breeding clinical pathology clinical pathology and surgery in addition to the development of veterinary programs with the rural community. This core consists of a permanent team of teachers who are responsible for planning and overseeing the creation of extension activities.

Nucleus Research: aims to stimulate the development of scientific initiation with effective participation of faculty and students. The results of true scientific congresses seminars in weeks publications in journals and magazines among other techniques. The center also promotes interaction with public and private bodies to promote the research and coordinate the creation of a scientific journal of veterinary research publications with UCB in that institution.
