The objectives of the Course of Zootecnia of UAST / UFRPE understand the formation of citizens capable of transforming the society through awareness of their rights within the socio-economic-political-cultural reality of the place, to promote the training of professionals capable of contributing to Zootecnista sustainable development of Brazil, to promote the achievement of basic and applied research using all available means and knowledge to understand, respect and respond to regional and national needs.

Among the various areas of expertise of zootechnics, you can highlight: the feed industries, farms, poultry houses, refrigerators, business equipment and agricultural inputs, experimental stations, research centers, institutions for technical assistance and rural extension, cooperatives of farmers , agricultural schools, universities and properties that create and develop animal husbandry, etc..

The Zootecnista is a professional with solid knowledge of science and technology and is prepared to plan and manage different systems of animal production, optimizing the use of resources potentially available technologies and socially adaptable as well as developing research demanded by real problems of the field. Besides being an effective agent for extension and assume teaching function, the professional has expertise on management, nutrition, production, marketing and breeding of animals.

The course aims to train top-level professionals trained in the theoretical / practical of Zootecnia, equipped with managerial and entrepreneurial mindset within the context of the globalized world and the various needs of the labor market segments productive. It is attributed to Zootecnista planning knowledge in the areas of livestock, breeding, trial of animals, herd recording, artificial insemination, fodder production, nutrition and feeding, management, production, reproduction and prophylaxis of various animals.

The Brazilian Zootecnista have before it a great challenge: the creation of Zootecnia Tropical, with the application of knowledge zootechnical that are compatible to the climatic and ecological conditions of our region. Agricultural Schools are a true and permanent market for Zootecnista. State agricultural research companies, the Brazilian Enterprise for Agricultural Research (EMBRAPA), along with institutions such as refrigerators, feed industries, and agricultural equipment, breeding farms and cooperatives represent the broad market’s working zootechnics.

The objective of the course of Veterinary Medicine is to train professionals to work in the fields of medicine and surgery of domestic and wild animals. The scope of work of the Veterinary involve the areas of trade and production of animal products, inspection of slaughterhouses and cold, expertise, and health examination of animals enrolled in sports competitions and exhibitions. The sectors in areas related to livestock, preparation and monitoring of feed-related activities are also supported by their academic background.

In practice, the course is taught in the Veterinary Hospital in Two brothers and the field of Advanced Clinic for Cattle in Garanhuns, looking to biotechnology in breeding of animals for the purpose of increased production and improving the quality of herds.

The veterinarian can work in private and public, as autonomous, developing surveillance activities with the objective of preserving animal and public health in Clinical Medicine, Veterinary Surgery and Veterinary hospitals, Zoos and parks, as well as laboratories, pharmaceuticals and vaccines, animal products and cooperative private farms.

The course of Zootecnia of UNIVASF is based on the tripod indissolubility teaching, research and extension and has a central proposal of the quality education, democratic management and social responsibility in order to form a critical and participatory citizen.

Currently there are 12 courses in Animal Science in the Northeast, four in state institutions and in eight federal institutions. The area of coverage of the semi-arid region is 912 thousand km2, occupied by 22 million people, with the ratio of professionals per area or people, still low. Thus, the labor market for the egress of Animal Science is a market in full expansion, especially in semi-arid region of Brazil.

The Course of Zootecnia Unoeste aims to train professionals with solid scientific and technological knowledge in the area of animal production, with ethical awareness, the vision and critical juncture in global economic, social, political, environmental, the region where it operates, Brazil and the world, with capacity for communication and integration with the various stakeholders that comprise the agroindustrial complex, with logical, analytical and interpretation to identify and solve problems

The Zootecnista is a professional prepared to work in management, research and assistance of different systems of animal production, adding value and optimizing the use of environmental resources and technology available.

Main Activities
Are skills and abilities of Zootecnista:

-Encourage, plan, coordinate and administer programs for genetic improvement of different animal species of economic interest and preservation;
-Work in the area of nutrition and feeding, and respond by formulating, manufacturing and quality control of diet and animal feed;
-Plan and execute construction projects in rural areas, training and / or production of pasture and fodder, and make the control environment;
Search-and propose better ways of using wild and exotic animals;
Manage-farms, industrial establishments and trade related to production, livestock breeding and technology;
-Evaluate, classify and represent products and animal by-products at all stages of production;
-Run the trial, monitor and advise companies on entry of animals from pedigree records, statements, evidence and functional assessments and animal husbandry;
-Develop research to improve the techniques of farming, transport, handling and slaughter, to animal welfare;
Officer programs to control health, hygiene, prophylaxis and animal traceability, public and private, aimed at food security;
-Develop, administer and coordinate programs, projects and activities in teaching, research and extension, as well as being able to work in scientific fields that allow the formation of academic zootechnics.

Practice Areas
The Brazilian agricultural sector is going through profound changes in the quest to modernize, increase productivity and respect for the environment, making companies more competitive in the market. Thus, the preparation, guidance, implementation and management of agricultural projects appropriate for different production systems is a growing field of work in Zootecnia.
Another friendly market is found in dietary plants and supplements, industries of meat and milk, cooperatives, associations of farmers and companies involved in the marketing of genetic material.
The Zootecnista also acts as director of educational institutions and in teaching in higher education and the average cycle.

Salary Range
The starting pay is around 08 minimum wages, varying according to experience and position of each professional.

Objectives:
- Training the veterinarian for diagnosis and therapeutic management of major diseases that affect dogs and cats within the universe of clinical small animal;
- Update on various areas covering each area, preparing for the professional trained in the clinical care of small animals;
- Guidance on how to conduct a review into the conduct and writing of research projects involving reports of clinical cases.

Objectives:
Prepare the veterinarian to work in the area of anesthesiology and surgery of small animals offering theoretical and practical foundation that will enable early diagnosis and precise surgical affections that affect dogs and cats as well as the determination of surgical treatment that results in better prognosis for the patient. A critical evaluation and appropriate use of surgical techniques will be addressed through presentations and discussions of clinical cases, and in practical classes students will have the opportunity to train and implement the main techniques discussed in class theoretical. In addition, the course aims to anesthetics prepare the student to select and implement appropriate anesthetic techniques to patients in various clinical conditions, promoting the recovery and conditioning the surgical procedures to the best possible prognosis.

This course is offered in Bagé in Rural Campus, in Alegrete.

The degree aims to train professionals with a solid scientific basis, able to understand and diagnose the current situation of livestock, as well as to guide the use of modern techniques to make farming economically viable activities. The professional will have power to run the profession in any area of their training. The graduate earns degree in veterinary medicine.

Under the coordination of professor José Carlos Lucena Rosa, this course offers 50 places per semester. The time duration of the course is 5 years (10 semesters), for a total of 4,470 hours / class. The classes take place in the daytime shift.

Among its general characteristics, the Course of Veterinary Medicine, University of the Region of the Campaign’s goal to form a competent professional with an overview and critique of the man in his relation with the environment and the society, dedicated to the branch of science Agrarian that studying animals, providing their cooperation in raising the living standards of the community, whose theoretical and practical knowledge to enable the exercise of the following main activities:

- Promote and implement measures to encourage the production of animals, instructing or adopting the procedures and systems, genetic and food that are most given to improvement of the various species and breeds, including the conditioning of their better adaptation to the environment, aiming to objectives of its creation and the destiny of their products;

- Study, coordination and implementation of techniques of interest to animal breeding, including the service of artificial insemination;

- Inspection and supervision from a health and hygiene of products of animal origin;

- Study and implementation of public health measures in relation to diseases of animals transmissible to humans (zoonoses);

- Perform the technical supervision of the exhibition of animals and of experimental stations for their creation;

- Clinical and surgical obstetrics domestic animals;

- Prophylaxis and control of infectious diseases and parasites of domestic animals;

- Join the examinations that the pets have to be submitted for the purpose of their registration in the companies registry of pedigree;

- Teaching and research, both in the professional sector of the veterinary sector and in basic biological sciences related.
