Zoology Admission Detail at North Eastern Hill University

ADMISSION NOTICE

Applications in the prescribed form are invited for admission to the courses of study in the North Eastern Hill University for the academic session commencing from March, 2009 for M.Phil/Ph.D and MBA, B.Tech and Law from August,2009. The courses offered are as indicated below against each of the Departments/Centre.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA : FOR RESEARCH COURSES

Candidates securing 55% marks in the Master Degree Examination of any recognized University are eligible to apply. Relaxation of 5% is applicable in respect of SC/ST candidates.
Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. in Centre for Adult & Continuing Education

Post graduate degree in any stream.
Management: Master of Business Administration (MBA) Eligibility Criteria for M.B.A. Programme

A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate (45% marks in case of ST/SC). Those appearing in the final examination and expecting their results by July 15, 2009 may also apply . ( Eligible candidates need to appear any of the MAT Tests (May,September,December,2008 and February, 2009). Candidates who are willing to take admission in the MBA Programme are required to fill up the NEHU application form enclosing their respective MAT Score.
B.TECH PROGRAMME: Information Technology (IT) and Electronic Communication Engineering (ECE) Eligibility criteria for B.Tech

(a) Candidates who has passed/appeared/appearing the higher secondary(10+2) Examination or its equivalent in Science Stream from any recognized Board having secured a minimum of 50% marks (in aggregate) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST candidates), (b) A candidates must have valid All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) score.
Department of Law : B.A.LL.B (Hons) : Eligibility Criteria for Law

(a) A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) or its equivalent with not less that 50% marks in aggregate in the core subject with at least 50% marks in English Language from a recognized University/Board and should not be more than 21 years, relaxable upto 2 years for SC/ST candidates (b) The candidate will have to clear the Entrance Test to be conducted by the Department.
For Certificate Course in Centre for Adult & Continuing Education : Duration :

One Semester ( 6 months) Total Course Fee : Rs.3000/- (Rupees three thousand) payable at the time of admission.
HOW TO APPLY

Prescribed application forms with prospectus can be obtained in person or by post from the Receptionist, Administrative Building, Permanent Campus, Shillong 793022 or from the office of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, NEHU, Tura Campus, Tura 794001 during office hours on payment of Rs.100/- through University Challan/Banker’s Cheque/Bank Draft drawn in favour of “North Eastern Hill University”. Request for application forms and prospectus by post should be addressed to the Dean Students’ Welfare, NEHU, Permanent Campus, Shillong 793022 accompanied by a self addressed envelop of 26 x 16cm affixing Rs.25/- stamp thereon and enclosing Demand Draft for Rs.100/-. The application form/prospectus fee is not reimbursable. The admission form may also downloaded from NEHU Website www.nehu.ac.in and filled in application form alongwith the Demand Draft of the same amount can be sent to the Dean Students Welfare, NEHU, Shillong 793022.
LAST DATE FOR APPLICATION

Application forms duly filled-in are to be submitted to the Head of the respective Department/Centre on or before 25th March, 2009 for the Research courses and M.B.A. Programme. The last date for the Law and B.Tech Programme is on 15th June , 2009. Application received after the specified date will not be entertained. For other details the candidates may consult the prospectus of the University or Website.

Animal Science And Range Management Degree at Federal University of Technology Yola

Animal Science, Fisheries and Wildlife Management was established in 1989 and it took off in 1990. The Department runs both five year post-secondary school and four year post-GCE‘A’ level undergraduate programme leading to the award of B. Agric. Tech. (Animal Science and Range Management).

The Department underwent initial accreditation in September 1995 as a result of which it was renamed Department of Animal Science and Range Management. The department graduated its first set of final year students (graduates) during the 1994/95 academic session.

The Senate of the university approved the M. Tech. /Ph.D. (Animal Production and Management) programmes of the department in 1998 and approval for take off was obtained in 2001. At present there are two Ph.D. students in the Department while those admitted into the M. Tech. programmes are expected to register in October 2002.

The Department places more emphasis on courses related to production and management techniques complemented with fieldwork and relevant laboratory practicals. The graduates trained in the department are thus expected to:

(i) Engage in production, research and extension services that would provide appropriate solutions to the livestock and rural development problems and generally improve upon livestock production in the country.

(ii) Profitably put their practical skills into operation by establishing and operating their own farming enterprises.

(iii) Take up employment anywhere in Nigeria in any aspect of livestock production and other related areas.

It is hoped that the above accomplishments may lead to the realization of the technological aspect of their training in a technological institution.

The Department of Zoology of the University of Gauhati is one of the leading Department and acclaimed both at national and international level. The Department has earned distinction in many areas of academic excellence. The Department has been a recipient of UGC SAP- Phase-I as well as DST, FIST programme. The department has produced both NET and SET qualified candidates in addition to other distinctive work, which has been submitted to various academic bodies.
Functioning of the Department

Besides normal P.G. teaching in the department, faculty members are seriously engaged in research programmes. On going projects and Ph. D. activities of the department are in very good shape. Lectures and seminars on various fields of the subject were been conducted very often round the year.
The P.G. syllabus has been revised and is implemented in the academic session.more..

The Department is having six laboratories viz.

Fish Biology & Fishery Science laboratory
Physiology & Biochemistry laboratory
One general laboratory for the other semesters

Other than the said laboratories the department is having one Computer Lab, one cell culture lab and one Central Instrumentation Center.
