Animal Science Deferred choice Undergraduate at University of Newcastle upon Tyne

There are two specialist themes (or Honours Options) in the Animal Science course at Newcastle, reflecting different career paths after graduation. If you are interested in studying Animal Science but are not sure which Honours Option to select when you apply, please enter C305 on your UCAS form. This enables you to defer your choice of Option until Stage 2, when you choose to specialise in either Companion Animal Studies or Livestock Technology.

Stage 1 is common to all animal science students, during which you will develop knowledge and skills in the areas of animal health, behaviour, physiology, biochemistry, genetics and microbiology. There are optional modules to choose from in agriculture, evolution and biodiversity, as well as modules in information technology and practical techniques. You can also choose a European language or business/marketing modules to complement the science modules that form the core of this degree.

The science/preveterinary option from the University of Idaho prepares you to become a professional in veterinary health.

Explore animal sciences such as anatomy, nutrition and reproduction, including hands-on sessions in on-campus laboratories and animal centers. Our beef center has more than 50 purebred cows; the dairy center has about 100 milking Holsteins; and the sheep center has over 100 breeding Suffolk ewes.

Veterinary Science provides world-class veterinary and para-veterinary education. Its programmes focus on improving maintenance of animal health, welfare, production, veterinary public health and the conservation of natural resources, thereby developing the welfare of communities in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. The Faculty’s track record for conducting innovative and ethically approved research through centres of excellence is internationally recognised.

GENERAL
The degree programme structure for Veterinary Science was changed to a 3-year BSc degree programme followed by a 4-year BVSc degree programme. The BSc programme is custom-made for Veterinary Science and is offered by the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences and the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Pretoria. The BVSc degree programme is offered by the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Onderstepoort.

LANGUAGE MEDIUM
Lectures are only presented in English in both these programmes.

UP ADMISSIONS TEST
The UP Admission Test is not applicable to applicants to the University Diploma in Veterinary Nursing.

SELECTION
Both programmes involve selection procedures based on academic merit and an interview, if required.

Selection for the BVSc degree will take place after the successful completion of all the first and secondyear modules of BSc(Veterinary Biology) for admission to the third year. Students who are selected to continue with the third year of Veterinary Biology may continue with the BVSc programme if they complete their third year successfully. The total number of students in the BVSc degree programme will be restricted to 135 students.

The Department of Fisheries, Animal and Veterinary Science offers a Master of Science (M.S.) degree program with specializations in Animal Science; Animal Health and Disease; Aquaculture; Fisheries; and Aquatic Pathology. The program is focused on how to get the best economic performance of livestock production, while good animal welfare and food safety are set in høgsetet.

Pets environment, animal welfare, feeding, animal health, physiology and anatomy are key topics. You will also learn about hensiktsmesige buildings for livestock.

The knowledge associated with the economy through the topics “operating management and entrepreneurship”, “svineproduksjon” and “cattle production” where, among other things, analyzes the operations and finance for some farms. You are challenged to think again.

Do not have experience with animal care from before, you’ll learn it early in the program. Nord-Trøndelag University College collaborates with Mære landbruksskole and farmers in the area, so that you as a student gets close contact with practical livestock.

In the final phase of the program conducts a self-written reports (BA thesis). Then you can more deeply into a subject you are particularly interested in.
