Livestock and poultry contribute significantly to the agro-based economy of Bangladesh. Commercial enterprises aimed for dairy, poultry and meat production are taking the strong roots and the demand for diversified veterinary services expanding with the increased economic growth of the country. Keeping these views in consideration, the department started its endeavor in 2004 in order to fostering quality veterinary education and to produce creative, efficient and modern professional leaders to face the demand of 21st century. The department offers course-credit semester based multidisciplinary Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. Recently, the department introduced M Phil and PhD program. The graduates of this department have a high prospect to join various prestigious jobs including Bangladesh Civil Service, Government & Non-Government organizations and self-employing income generating activities. A total of 51 students of three batches are studying at present. Currently, 10 teachers are engaged in teaching and research in the department.

Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry came into existence, as a constituent unit of the University in 1984 with a mandate of professional teaching and extension in veterinary and animal sciences. Before shifting to its permanent campus at Shuhama, Srinagar in 1990 , the Faculty carried its function at Sheep Husbandry Complex, Nowshara, Srinagar . The aim of the Faculty is to produce qualified Veterinary graduates and postgraduates, conduct need based research in the filed of Veterinary and Animal Sciences and transfer of technology to the animal rearing community of the State. The Faculty has recorded significant achievements within available resource in the areas of its statutory mandate.
The Faculty has made commendable work in research, disease diagnostics and health care. The research publication from the Faculty has been published in national and international journal of repute. The Faculty is running veterinary clinical complex for teaching undergraduates and postgraduate students. The clinic acts as referral clinic for Development Departments and farming community.

Arcadia University offers several routes for completion of the requirements for admission to schools of veterinary medicine. Majors in Biology or Chemistry are most commonly taken by students interested in veterinary medicine, but schools will accept students with excellent records in other majors, provided they have adequate preparation in the basic sciences and mathematics. The pre-professional adviser assists students with the application process and choice of schools.

Students are advised to check with the schools at which they intend to apply to determine which of the Mathematics, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Microbiology courses are pre-requisites for admission.
Satisfactory performance on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for admission. The GRE may be taken in the spring or summer of the junior year or the fall of the senior year for students who plan to enter veterinary school immediately following graduation.
In addition to prerequisite coursework, students are expected to have gained practical experience with veterinary medicine by either working or volunteering in facilities where veterinary medicine is practiced, such as veterinary clinics, zoos or animal husbandry facilities. Some schools may have specific hour requirements for these experiences.
A strong background in liberal arts and study abroad experiences are considered favorably.

Student interested in Production Agriculture or Animal Husbandry may select the Animal Science degree plan as their major and may select Range and Wildlife Management, Food Science, Agronomy, Biology, or Chemistry as a minor.
Students interested in Animal Business and Sales may select the Animal Business degree plan as their major and may select a minor in Finance, Accounting, Management, Marketing, and/or Economics.

Students who successfully complete an Applied Science degree in Animal Technology will:
Effectively apply multiple specie Animal Husbandry skills and concepts within the livestock industry.

Interact with professionals unique to the industry using appropriate vocabulary.
Apply appropriate computational and accounting skills and utilize technology for successful money management and other record keeping requirements.
Program Requirements
The Animal Technology program is designed to be completed in two years. This assumes, however, that the entering student has been placed at or above the following levels on the Computerized Placement Test: WR 115 Introduction to College Writing and MTH 060 Introduction to Algebra. It is advisable to take the test as early as possible. If developmental coursework is required, it may take the student longer than two years to complete the program.
In preparation for the Animal Technology program, high school students should study mathematics, life sciences and physical sciences. Program completion requires a minimum of four credits of math and eight credits of chemistry or biology, plus other general education courses, such as English composition, speech and social science.
Students can take general education courses at night, but the technical classes are offered only during the day. Part-time enrollment is common; students may start in the middle of the school year or enroll for any portion of the program.
Facilities
Classes are conducted in modern, well-equipped classrooms and laboratories. Emphasis is placed on hands-on experience, and many classes utilize the local livestock producers for in-the-field laboratory exercises. Computers, microscopes and other modern lab equipment are available for student use. The college supplies equipment and tools for use during lab sessions.

A cross-section of lower-division agriculture electives are available, providing practical instructional experiences in animal science, economics and crop production.

The objective of this Master of Science (MSc) programme is to produce skilled nutritionists who can efficiently apply their knowledge into practice. The programme of studies aims to equip students with a skill in feed formulation, to generate familiarity with apparatus for feed evaluation and feed production as well as to build up a capability to elucidate utilisation of nutrition and disorders caused by nutritional imbalance in animals. Furthermore, the programme also provides knowledge on research methodology including experimental design, parameters selection and result analysis. (NB.: The applicants to the programme are required to be a holder of a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science, Animal Husbandry, Animal science, Food Science, Food Technology or related field.)
