The UFV Animal Science Program aims to provide a strong basis in scientific and technological sciences, preparing professionals to plan and manage a variety of different animal production systems, optimizing the use of the available resources, using socially adaptable technologies, with social and environmental responsibilities; develop research demanded by real problems in Brazil; and become efficient agents of agricultural extension.
Bachelors in Animal Science work with animal nutrition, breeding and management, increasing production and development, using modern technologies of animal production to achieve sustainable development. They will use their knowledge with ecological concern, to achieve socially desirable and economically efficient results.
Therefore, graduates in animal science are professionals acting in a participative environment, applying technical-scientific innovation in agriculture and cattle raising. Graduates will hold a solid critical, creative and innovative training; analytical, technological and enterprising capacities; social, political, economic, cultural and environmental vision; and outstanding performance at solving problems related to animal production systems.
Animal Science graduates from the UFV hold a widely diversified solid scientific and technological basis and are encouraged to develop enterprising professional skills and act as entrepreneurs in agricultural and cattle raising business. They can also find jobs in specialized technical service organizations, working for public or private companies; integrating multidisciplinary production teams; animal nutrition and breeding; agribusiness; environmental resource use and conservation; and processing and quality control of products of animal origin.
The Animal Science Department faculty hold PhD degree and are full time professors. The department owns a complete physical structure and building; laboratories of bioclimatology, biotechnology, animal nutrition, fish nutrition, ruminant nutrition, reproduction and computer science; sectors of poultry farming, dairy and beef cattle breeding, goat breeding, cuniculture, horse raising, foraging, pig farming, bee keeping, wild animals care, frog farming, fish farming, silkworm farming, genetic breeding of pigs and poultry; animal food plant; incubatory; and a library. The UFV Animal Science program is recognized in the scientific and academic fields as one of the best in Brazil.
