The veterinarian has to make specific contributions on the health and welfare, ensuring health and quality of animal products, control of zoonoses and the adequacy of the animal production process to the new standards and requirements of sustainable development.

The veterinarian has been increasingly called upon to participate in the production process in relation to animal production and products, health and animal welfare, public health and the environment, these issues which are the four major areas of performance of the veterinarian.

This professional must understand and to integrate the process of regional development of society from a critical view of the chain of animal production. Must be able to develop diagnostic, plan and execute actions at different levels of the production process. In its action, the goals should consider economic, social and cultural needs of different social actors, mediated by the concept of animal welfare, food safety and reducing adverse effects to the environment.

Veterinary Medicine Graduate at Universidade Castelo Branco

The Course of Veterinary Medicine of UCB aims to train professional qualified to perform the activities related to the veterinarian, as has the Law 5517/68. This work should promote the construction of knowledge through content specific conceptual and practical activities, aimed at preparing the foundation for a general education, comprehensive and eclectic, with expertise in this area, with ethics training, critical view along the ability to reassess its potential performance, developing actions on animal health, animal production, food and environmental protection; It also aims to develop actions of prevention, promotion, protection and rehabilitation of health, quality and critical thinking, seeking solutions in individual and collective level, being based on science, with capacity for assessment so that can make decisions and lead teams, seeking the welfare of the community, by training their entrepreneurial vision and management capacity and expression in correct language Portuguese, being committed to citizenship, due to social demands and conscious of the need for constant improvement.

Specific:

Developing ethical principles;
Interpret clinical signs and symptoms;
Request, execute and interpret laboratory tests and other supplementary aid diagnosis;
Identify and classify the etiological factors comprising or clarify the pathogenesis associated with morphofunctional changes triggered;
Establish the diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and prophylactic measures and individual stocks;
Prevent, control and eradicate the diseases that affect animals;
Participate in public health programs through the planning and execution of them;
Elaborarar agricultural and environmental projects related to the profession;
Develop and guide the application of modern techniques of production and animal breeding;
Implement the health and technical inspection of animal products;
Plan and manage units of agribusiness;
Develop and participate in projects in the area of reproduction and biotechnology products;
Delivering expertise, develop and interpret technical reports in all fields of work of the veterinarian;
Interact with the various social segments in favor of protection and monitoring of environment and social welfare;
Encourage the exercise of citizenship, emphasizing the importance of the veterinarian in the social context;

Classes are geared to meet the needs of professional training to be supported in the teacher as facilitator and mediator of the teaching-learning process favoring the construction of knowledge. On this principle there was in the structure of the course of Veterinary Medicine University of Castelo Branco the need for deployment of nuclei formed by the faculty to develop with the support of the joint coordination between education research and extension as follows:
Center for Extension: develops along the course and scope of community projects implementing routines of work in strategic areas such as public health / preventive veterinary medicine and animal production technology inspection of animal products breeding clinical pathology clinical pathology and surgery in addition to the development of veterinary programs with the rural community. This core consists of a permanent team of teachers who are responsible for planning and overseeing the creation of extension activities.
The core of the extension plan and manage the coordination of ongoing activities complementary.
Nucleus Research: aims to stimulate the development of scientific initiation with effective participation of faculty and students. The results of true scientific congresses seminars in weeks publications in journals and magazines among other techniques. The center also promotes interaction with public and private bodies to promote the research and coordinate the creation of a scientific journal of veterinary research publications with UCB in that institution.
Besides the routine activities of this core responsibility to manage all the same faculty that is developing search. In each case the teacher involved is a member of the core.
Accordingly the University has White Castle under the coordination of the Pro-Rectory of Research and Graduate Studies an institutional program of research that addresses the scientific initiation of students to the granting of scholarships and funding of projects developed by students and teachers.
Thus it aims to stimulate the conduct of experiments and research projects in various areas of work of the professional seeking constantly insert it into practical activities enabling integrated and interdisciplinary academic experience in routines and thus improving the learning process. In this process takes place the internship / work articulated extension activities that contribute to the improvement of vocational training.
