Veterinary Medicine Undergraduate at Holy Names College

Biological Science and Chemistry are the traditional majors for pre-Vet-Med students. However, as with pre-med, any major is an option for a student desiring to become a veterinarian. The coursework requirements are identical to those for Pre-Medicine (see above under Medicine). Some schools have specific requirements for statistics (PSYC 63) and developmental biology/embryology (BIOL 105). Experience working with animals is a universal prerequisite for admissions to veterinary programs, and graduates also must take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). It is best to obtain a catalog from the prospective schools and complete the courses required for the school of choice. Close contact with and advising from the advisor for Pre-Health Science in the Biological Science Department is strongly recommended for the entire undergraduate program.

Pre Veterinary Medicine Undergraduate at Wayland Baptist University

Students desiring to enter this program should follow the recommendation for pre-medical (listed below). Students are urged to contact their school of choice and seek advisement on admissions.

The professional schooling for medical and dental students is four years in duration and begins following four years of preparatory work, including the B.S. degree. Most medical and dental schools prefer students with a broadly based academic background and a strong emphasis in the physical and biological sciences and mathematics. Students must maintain a competitive overall GPA. Students are advised to take the MCAT/DAT exam in April of their junior year.

The TTHP Guide to Health Professions recommends the following math and science courses for students seeking admission to medical schools in Texas:

BIOL 1401 – General Biology I
BIOL 1402 – General Biology II
Including additional background courses from:
BIOL 3402 – Genetics
BIOL 3403 – Developmental Biology

Zoology Degree at Michigan State University

Zoology is the integrative study of animal biology. Research and teaching in this department explores a wide range of biological questions in a diverse array of species, using cutting edge techniques in both the field and the laboratory. We are unified by an emphasis on integration across levels of biological organization, and by our recognition of the explanatory power of evolutionary theory in understanding biological complexity. This integrative perspective helps unify researchers in modern biological subdisciplines, including cellular and developmental biology, neurobiology, animal behavior, ecology, evolution, and environmental science.
