The veterinarian has to make specific contributions on the health and welfare, ensuring health and quality of animal products, control of zoonoses and the adequacy of the animal production process to the new standards and requirements of sustainable development.

The veterinarian has been increasingly called upon to participate in the production process in relation to animal production and products, health and animal welfare, public health and the environment, these issues which are the four major areas of performance of the veterinarian.

This professional must understand and to integrate the process of regional development of society from a critical view of the chain of animal production. Must be able to develop diagnostic, plan and execute actions at different levels of the production process. In its action, the goals should consider economic, social and cultural needs of different social actors, mediated by the concept of animal welfare, food safety and reducing adverse effects to the environment.

Since many of the diseases and other public health issues that can be linked to animals are emerging across the world, veterinary public heath has gained more important than ever. Veterinarians play an important role in combining veterinary science and public health to promote and protect human health. As a result, public health veterinarians are increasingly in demand. Our program is a multidisciplinary course addressing food safety, food and animal production, epidemiology of infectious diseases, zoonoses, emerging diseases, animal waste management, antimicrobial resistance, risk analysis and other issues related to human health. The program is obligated to produce professionals with knowledge and skills, who can maintain the health of animal and human populations through an understanding and application of veterinary science. Only a thesis M.S. degree is offered

The program is focused on how to get the best economic performance of livestock production, while good animal welfare and food safety are set in høgsetet.

Pets environment, animal welfare, feeding, animal health, physiology and anatomy are key topics. You will also learn about hensiktsmesige buildings for livestock.

Do not have experience with animal care from before, you’ll learn it early in the program. Nord-Trøndelag University College collaborates with Mære landbruksskole and farmers in the area, so that you as a student gets close contact with practical livestock.

In the final phase of the program conducts a self-written reports (BA thesis). Then you can more deeply into a subject you are particularly interested in.
