The College of Southern Idaho’s Associate of Applied Science degree enables students to excel in the progressive field of veterinary technology. Our Veterinary Technology Program gives motivated individuals an opportunity to combine their compassion for animals with their interest in science and medicine.

We are excited to be Idaho’s first college to offer this degree, and we hope you are ready to embark upon a challenging and rewarding career.

Students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue a baccalaureate degree in these pre-professional programs ordinarily follow the Biological Sciences or Chemistry curricula. All students must complete the general education requirements in order to earn the A.A. or A.S. degree. Students should become familiar as soon as possible with the requirements of the institution to which they plan to transfer. Students should choose electives only after consulting with an advisor. All course prerequisites must be met.

Veterinary Medicine was established to research and teach subjects concerning the theoretical and practical prevention, diagnosis and treatment of various animal diseases. The Department also produces competent veterinarians who can contribute to the health and well-being of animals and humans through their learning in clinical management and comprehensive laboratory examinations of animal diseases.

Veterinary medicine applies modern medical science to the care of animals. The study of veterinary medicine is concerned with gaining a thorough knowledge of the fundamental biological and physical sciences relating to animal functions. In the clinical years, students correlate and apply this knowledge to the many areas of professional service.

The pre-veterinary medicine program at UW-Platteville (School of Agriculture and Biology Department) consists of selected courses, specified by veterinary colleges, that prepare students for admission into a four year program which culminates in the awarding of a doctorate in veterinary medicine. (Note: This program is administered by the School of Agriculture.)
