The veterinarian has to make specific contributions on the health and welfare, ensuring health and quality of animal products, control of zoonoses and the adequacy of the animal production process to the new standards and requirements of sustainable development.

The veterinarian has been increasingly called upon to participate in the production process in relation to animal production and products, health and animal welfare, public health and the environment, these issues which are the four major areas of performance of the veterinarian.

This professional must understand and to integrate the process of regional development of society from a critical view of the chain of animal production. Must be able to develop diagnostic, plan and execute actions at different levels of the production process. In its action, the goals should consider economic, social and cultural needs of different social actors, mediated by the concept of animal welfare, food safety and reducing adverse effects to the environment.

The Undergraduate Anthropology Program emphasizes the commitment of this department to four-field anthropology, providing exposure to Ethnology, Archeology, Linguistic and Biological Anthropology. As a discipline, anthropology investigates both the biological and the sociocultural aspects of humanity in all its diversity. This holistic approach serves Anthropology’s intellectual goal to achieve a comprehensive and comparative understanding of humanity.

Anthropology can be an important component of a liberal education, complementing a wide variety of fields. While the undergraduate concentration program provides an excellent foundation for more advanced work in anthropology, it is not intended to be solely a preprofessional program. Many of our concentrators pursue advanced degrees in other disciplines, such as law, medicine, social work, public health and history. Others find a concentration or coursework in anthropology helpful in government service or in a variety of international organizations and businesses. A number of our concentrators choose to combine an anthropology concentration with a second field of study. We also offer minors in the sub-disciplines of anthropology. The Undergraduate Advisor will provide interested students with information and guidance in planning a concentration or minor, and is always happy to discuss the ways that anthropology can contribute to various goals.

Veterinary Medicine provides the knowledge of a general medical science of animals and related applications and research. The departments aim is to contribute to the development of our national and international society by training veterinary professionals, furthering the knowledge in veterinary science, biomedical science and public health. The veterinary curriculum provides students with the basic biomedical education and the practical training of veterinary clinical science. Students complete 2 years of preparatory (80 credits) and 4 years of regular courses (160 credits) and can acquire the government authorized license as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) by passing the national board examination. At present, 95-100% of the graduates have passed the national board examination every year.

In order to meet the expectations of students and the demands of society for future professionals, the teaching of Veterinary Sciences covers a wide range of applications, ganool cover 11 spread over 2 semesters of courses and studies include:

- The year in clinical pets, of captive and exotic, diagnosing the etiology of disease processes and prescribing the appropriate treatment and developing a scheme prophylactic correctly. Other clinical activity focuses on species of livestock and the role of recreation and sport, relevant not only in the economy of the farms, but also in public health.
- The Public Health whose activity exceeds the intervention at the farm level, there is still a much more comprehensive action, with particular emphasis on control of zoonoses transmitted by domestic animals species, and wild game.
- The Food Technology, the FDA in Food Safety to follow the product from production to consumption, ensuring quality and food hygiene and health of the final product. These and many other related areas such as biotechnology and diagnosis, animal health and epidemiovigilância are essential to the intervention of the veterinarian.
