Indiana University School of Dentistry is one of the oldest dental schools in the nation. It was established as the Indiana Dental College in 1879 and became part of Indiana University in 1925. In 1933, IU built a facility to house the school at its current site on what is now known as the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus. Today this sprawling, five-story edifice is composed of the original building and two major additions. It is the only dental school in the Hoosier state.

Animal Nutrition Science is a traditional excellent major of our university with its own specialty and fame. The training aim of this major is to cultivate practical and professional talents for the fields of education, research, technology promotion, entity administration of animal production. And as the main course of this major, it is very important in the realization of major training aim. Its basic task is to provide theoretical basis and practice reference for the scientific animal production. The purpose of this course is to stimulate the study interests of students by using various teaching methods and device, so that they can master the basic theory and technique of this course, study the physical effect of the nutritious materials in the feed and the animals’ needs in it and different influential factors; master the concepts of various nutrients and examining principle, understand the evaluation and setting methods of the nutrient usage. In this course, we are aimed to foster the students’ capability in practice, problem analyzing and solving via the teaching model of combining self-study and practice.

A degree in Animal Science combines different disciplines – animal nutrition, genetics, behavior, and reproductive physiology – with hands on, practical applications for the livestock, poultry and companion animal industries. Animal Science prepares students for many career opportunities. The major coursework combines theory and practical applications for all of the species common to the livestock and poultry industries. The flexibility of the Animal Science curriculum is the basis for student learning and understanding. In today’s technology- driven world, the ability to integrate scientific knowledge with the principles of business is what allows our students to respond to the rapid changes they will face in their future careers.

Upon Successful Completion of the Animal Science Program, the student demonstrates the skills, knowledge and training in preparing for employment in animal production and science. After receiving a two year AS degree in Veterinary Technology a student will be eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology Program at St. Petersburg College by submitting the following:
Application for Admission.
Official transcripts from high school and college(s) currently or previously attended. Students who have submitted transcripts that document a fully accredited associate in arts, bachelor’s or higher degree are not required to submit a high school transcript, unless it documents completion of 2 consecutive years of one foreign language.
Official transcripts showing an A.S. or A.A.S. degree of sixty (60) hours in Veterinary Technology at an AVMA Accredited program at a regionally accredited institution. Students with completion of an A.S. or A.A.S. degree in Veterinary Technology from a non-AVMA accredited program at a regionally accredited institution must complete ATE 2612, ATE 2634, ATE 2653L and ATE 2639L.
Completion of all college preparatory coursework and a minimum of fifteen (15) semester hours of transferable general education coursework.
Cumulative grade point average of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale in all postsecondary coursework.
