Animal Science MS at Kansas State University

Animal Sciences and Industry is a comprehensive unit supported by about 50 faculty devoted to research, teaching, and extension activities related to domestic farm animals species. Currently, the department has approximately 700 undergraduate students advised in the department and about 75 graduate students pursuing both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.

For graduate training, the department has animal research and teaching units located conveniently to the main campus. Those units include sheep, poultry, purebred beef, dairy, swine, and horse teaching and research units and the beef, forage, range and cow-calf research units. In addition, laboratories in both Call and Weber Halls contain state-of-the-art equipment that allow the student access to most analytical techniques required for their research.

Graduate training in the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry is organized within six functional discipline groups including animal breeding and genetics, food science, meat science, monogastric nutrition, physiology, and ruminant nutrition.

Veterinary Science MS Graduate at University Of Nebraska Lincoln

Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences offers a Master of Science degree in veterinary sciences. The program offers excellent opportunities for career development in the veterinary and biomedical field. The department is engaged in basic and applied biomedical research of animal health and disease.

An interdisciplinary approach is used involving collaboration among the disciplines of bacteriology, virology, immunology, molecular biology, pathology, biochemistry, toxicology, and epidemiology. The multidisciplinary composition of veterinary and biomedical sciences provides unique opportunities for research on disease pathogenesis, host defense, characterization of microbial pathogens, gene regulation, disease diagnosis and control, and epidemiology of food animal production.

The department also offers a comprehensive graduate program leading to a Doctor of Philosophy degree in integrative biomedical sciences. This educational program is designed to provide individualized instruction, with a strong emphasis on health and disease. A prominent area of study consists of research in infectious diseases including: biomedicine, bacteriology, immunology, pathology, epidemiology, virology, and mechanisms of disease. Molecular and cell biology techniques are emphasized in most programs.

Animal and Range Sciences offers graduate work in animal science leading to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees and the Master of Agriculture degree with a ranch manager option. Specific areas of study at the master’s level include animal breeding, meats, nutrition and reproductive physiology.
