Program information
Veterinary science is the application of medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic principles to companion, domestic, exotic, wildlife, and production animals. Veterinary science is vital to the study and protection of animal production practices, herd health and monitoring spread of widespread disease. It requires the acquisition and application of scientific knowledge in multiple disciplines and uses technical skills towards disease prevention in both domestic and wild animals.

Human health is protected by veterinary science working closely with many medical professionals by the careful monitoring of livestock health as well as its unique training in epidemiology and emerging zoonotic diseases worldwide.

Veterinarians assist in ensuring the quality, quantity, and security of food supplies by working to maintain the health of livestock. Veterinary scientists are very important in chemical, biological, and pharmacological research.

Animal Science Degree at Bakersfield College

A degree in Animal Science combines different disciplines – animal nutrition, genetics, behavior, and reproductive physiology – with hands on, practical applications for the livestock, poultry and companion animal industries. Animal Science prepares students for many career opportunities. The major coursework combines theory and practical applications for all of the species common to the livestock and poultry industries. The flexibility of the Animal Science curriculum is the basis for student learning and understanding. In today’s technology- driven world, the ability to integrate scientific knowledge with the principles of business is what allows our students to respond to the rapid changes they will face in their future careers.

European Master in Animal Breeding and Genetics at Swedish University Of Agricultural Sciences

Future Prospects
Graduates will be able to contribute to the development of sustatinable animal breeding, in and outside Europe.

Content and Outline
The aim is building capacities in the fields of animal breeding and genomics to meet the following challenges in developed and developing countries:

- increase of livestock and fish production,
while preserving the quality of
the products and the welfare of animals
-preservation of natural resources,
especially biodiversity, which become
scarcer and scarcer
- development of sustainable animal
breeding programmes that contribute
to improved livelihood of farmers and
efficient food chains
- development of sustainable breeding
programmes that contribute to the improved
health and welfare of companion
animals (including populations
in zoos and nature reserves)

EM-ABG aims to offer high quality international training, both in terms of scientific knowledge as well as in didactic skills, provided by six excellent universities (WU, the Netherlands; SLU, Sweden; UB, Norway; CAU, Germnay; BOKU, Austria; Agro Paris Tech, France). Integrating education in a joint masters programme offers the students better opportunity to specialize in a certain aspect, as well as to have access to a broad range of subjects. The main language of instruction is English.

The two-year EMABG Master’s programme consists of obligatory and optional studies, covering disciplinary and complementary subjects, as well as problem oriented studies and thesis. EMABG starts with a three-week orientation period in Wageningen (the Netherlands) jointly for all the students. Thereafter, students conduct the major part of their training at two universities of the consortium, one year at each university. Successful students are awarded two nationally recognized Master’s degrees (double degree).

Degree
European Master in Animal Breedings and Genetics

Prerequisites
EMABG is open to well motivated students who have completed a BSc or equivalent degree in animal science or related fields and have good knowledge in English, both orally and written. Knowledge in Statistics and Genetics at BSc level is a requirement. For further details about EMABG and information on application and scholarships, please visit www.emabg.eu

Animal Breeding and Genetics Master at Norwegian University Of Life Sciences

The European Master in Animal Breeding and Genetics (EM-ABG) offers high quality training, both in terms of scientific knowledge and didactic skills, provided by six excellent university groups within the EU.

The EM-ABG is a response to the need for highly qualified graduates in the internationally operating area of animal breeding and genetics.

Breathitt Veterinary Degree at Murray State University

The mission of the Breathitt Veterinary Center (BVC) is to provide rapid, accurate diagnostic data that enables veterinarians to make appropriate treatment decisions. The BVC is part of an interdependent team composed of the animal owner, veterinarian, and diagnostic laboratory dedicated to the efficient production of safe animal products to the consumers of Kentucky. The BVC uses the latest scientific knowledge, equipment, and techniques to reduce losses from animal diseases and to promote animal health.

The BVC is fully accredited for all animal species by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD). The scientific disciplines of Pathology, Microbiology, Molecular Diagnostics, Toxicology, Serology, and Virology are provided in the facility. The lists on the following pages include most of the diagnostic procedures performed by the BVC. The BVC continually expands its testing capabilities and strives to incorporate advancements in scientific tests and equipment into its operations. Please contact the BVC if you have any questions regarding the availability of tests or with a recommendation for additions.
