At IPFW, you may complete the four-semester preveterinary curriculum, which includes the minimum requirements for admission into the baccalaureate degree program in veterinary technology at the West Lafayette campus of Purdue University.

The distance-learning program leads to an associate degree from Purdue University while taking all required courses either at the IPFW campus, via distance learning and Web instruction, or in collaboration with local designated clinical mentors and/or veterinarians in the surrounding counties.

Veterinary assistants are becoming more important as valued members of the veterinary health care team in today’s modern practices. This one-year program prepares you to support veterinary technicians and veterinarians in a veterinary practice. Duties performed by veterinary assistants include animal restraint, preparing animals for surgery, care of surgical instruments and other equipment, care and feeding of in-patients, processing radiographs and front office procedures. Veterinary assistants are not trained to give injections, take blood samples, perform laboratory procedures, administer anesthetics, monitor patients during anesthesia and assist in surgery.

This is an 8-quarter program with the last quarter consisting of an externship during which students will work with a veterinarian in a veterinary office. The veterinary technology program is accredited by the Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA), a division of the American Veterinary Medical Association. As a student in this program, you are trained to assist veterinarians in all aspects of a veterinary practice, including patient care, medical administration, surgical preparation, equipment maintenance, radiological procedures, laboratory procedures, public relations and office procedures. Upon graduation, the veterinary technician is qualified to take the National Veterinary Technician Exam and/or any other state exam required for registration, certification or licensure in that state.

Veterinary medicine is a profession appealing to persons with an interest in science and animals. Some veterinarians go into general practice, specialize in small or large animals, or perform research. Veterinary medicine is a four-year program preceded by two or more years of college-level preparatory work. Please contact the transfer institution for specific requirements.
Another option for students interested in veterinary medicine is the veterinary technician program. Students interested in such an option should discuss the program with a science advisor.

This graduate program is designed to prepare veterinarians for research, teaching, practicing and other related areas. Specialized areas of academic staff in the program include endocrine pharmacology, immunopharmacology, cardiovascular pharmacology, herbal pharmacology and toxicology. To gain entry to the Bachelor of Veterinary Science/Bachelor of Veterinary Biology course, applicants are required to demonstrate:
a high level of academic ability through previous studies
an interest in, and commitment to, rural Australia, veterinary science and animal production
an understanding of the unique ethical and practical issues that confront veterinarians involved with rural practice and animal production
the capacity to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Previous studies
Previous studies include:
the NSW Higher School Certificate or interstate/overseas equivalent
a completed or part-completed course of a university (equivalent to at least one year of full-time study)
NSW and interstate school leavers are normally selected on the basis of their Universities Admissions Index (UAI) or interstate equivalent. Currently no secondary school subjects are prerequisites for admission to the Bachelor of Veterinary Science/Bachelor of Veterinary Biology course however students with a strong interest in science would be expected to do chemistry if attending a school where it is offered.

The European School for Advanced Veterinary Studies (ESAV) was founded in 1991 in Luxembourg as a UETP (University-Enterprise-Training-Partnership) and pilot project of the EU COMETT II program. The umbrella organization of ESAV is the European Association for Veterinary Specialization (EAVS), a non-profit organization registered in Luxembourg.
The ESAV is an associate member of the Fédération Européenne des Animaux de Companie (FECAVA) and has the support of the Union of European Veterinary Practitioners (UEVP). Additionally, study programs were organized as a new pilot project under the EU `s Leonardo Da Vinci program.
Since 1991 over 3500 veterinarians from 42 countries have attended the courses ESAV. The study programs cover more than 20 veterinary disciplines taught by leading experts.
Since September 2006, the ESAV is a part of the post-graduate education program of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication at the University of Luxembourg.
An excellent Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is guaranteed by small groups of participants, modern facilities and practical workshops.
